Martina Zingg-Schir, born in Innsbruck, Austria, is an amateur photographer and has been involved in artistic photography for several years. She did a diploma in photography in Vienna to deepen her knowledge and skills, furthermore project courses and courses in portrait, black and white and landscape photography with Rupert Larl, Fotoforum Innsbruck, Narrative Photography with Viktoria Sorochinski, Berlin, Diploma Leica Academy Vienna. Her work was shown in several group exhibitions at LIK Gallery Vienna and at the Photogallery „Fotoforum Innsbruck“. She runs her own gallery at her studio, where she works as a dermatologist.

I studied photography at the IEFC, Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya, while working as a photography assistant in Barcelona. In 1995 I moved to Australia, where I started collaborating with different photographers, worked as a freelance and finally founded Shock Studio with my friend Fergus Stothart. In 1997, I returned to Spain and expanded my activity as a production assistant in Barcelona and Madrid. In 2010 I moved to Córdoba with my family, and since 2015 I focus my activity exclusively on professional photography. In 2021 I joined Espacioplástico as a partner and promoter.

Kathy is a fine art and creative portrait photographer, writer, and costumier based in Auckland, New Zealand. Through the mediums of photography and photo manipulation, she creates surreal visual stories with her own quirky point of view. Kathy trained in fashion design and technology in her twenties and spent the intervening thirty plus years working in the apparel and applied arts industries creating everything from garments, to jewellery, to novels, and more recently photographs and photo composites. She also teaches sewing and pattern making, jewellery making, and creative writing.

In Artdoc Issue #4 2021we bring photographers who investigate our complex reality. French photographer Mathieu Asselin said this about his documentary project Monsanto: a photographic investigation: “You can have your own truth, but you cannot have your own facts.” Indian photographer Alakananda Nag delved into her city’s history, concluding that the Armenians could be the founding fathers of Calcutta. French photographer Florian Ruiz distorted his images as a metaphor for the environmental distortion of the radioactive sites in China. The Artdoc exhibition Documentary Stories shows different photographers who all engage in new ways of visual storytelling. In his essay, Koray Değirmenci discusses the validity of the manipulated digital image. We should read modern multi-layered photographs as metaphors of invisible realities.

In many parts of the world, humans are looking for a better life in political freedom, social justice, and happiness. In Artdoc Issue #3-2021, we bring stories of defectors, refugees and survivors. Tim Franco photographed North Korean defectors in Seoul. Charlotte Schmitz took images of refugees arriving at the Greek islands. In Peru, Max Cabello Orcasitas captured the grief of the survivors of the battles between the government and the Shining Path. Sébastien Cuvelier searched for Paradise in Iran and found walled gardens. Finally, Simon Norfolk photographed the struggle against global warming in the Swiss glaciers.
