If we define the universe as all that exists, then by definition, there can be only one universe. But if we define the universe as “what we can ever see” regardless of the size of our telescopes or “space-time zones expanding together”, then there may indeed exist many universes. Quantum mechanics describes the world in terms of probabilities, where all the possible effects of a situation occur in their own separate universes. For example, if we reach a crossroads where we can go right or left, the present universe creates two sub-universes: one to which we are going to the right and one to which we are going to the left. We might encounter unlimited versions of ourselves, only to discover that our reality is not the only one. My series What if? is based on digital representations of reality and is not limited to the laws of physics; it has to do with human assumptions. Assuming we have the opportunity to live in another space-time, what path would we follow? How would another version of us be if it exists in a parallel universe? I wonder if each of us is a complete universe, if we are links in micro universes of a living chain, of a perfect universe that pulsates, contracts and expands, depending on the possibilities and peculiarities of the evolution of each link.
