I’m Not Telling You a Story; I Am Showing You Who I Am is my ongoing cameraless photographic series that uncovers thoughts and emotions outside of my awareness, revealing what would otherwise stay hidden. Born out of a desire to examine where ideas come from, this body of work is an intimate reflection of unlocking and stimulating the communication between the conscious and subconscious mind. I surrender and allow visual forms to emerge without attaching them to a constrictive narrative. I do not apply parameters or force cohesion. Instead, I empower every feeling to take shape freely with urgency and sincerity. Meant to be experienced rather than wholly understood, these photographs are a direct, unfiltered manifestation of what I am confronting.

Debora Francis is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily with analogue photographic techniques. With a B.A. in Psychology, Debora’s approach is rooted in a devotion to self-awareness. She forms deep connections to her artwork while resonating an innate sensitivity to human frailty and interdependence. Her art serves as an intimate therapeutic tool and is an expression of vulnerability and survival. Primarily self-taught, her unique approach is informed by continued studies in fashion/textile design, bookbinding, printmaking, cinematography, and alternative photographic processes. Debora’s work has been exhibited in New York City and is held in private collections in the United States, France, and Israel. Her images are featured on several album covers, and independent/experimental art films are a significant focus of her work. She is currently working on a cameraless photography series; I’m Not Telling You a Story; I Am Showing You Who I Am. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
