The year 2020 has seen some of our many firsts. The first global pandemic in a hundred years, the first indoor summer, the first of many uncertainties! It’s a lot of troubled firsts. Amidst this chaos and uncertainty, I welcomed a first of my own: my first pregnancy. A bit scary and a whole lot of joy. Documenting it was the most amazing thing to do, but within the threshold of my home, it seemed like a lost world of possibilities. So, I set out on a different photographic adventure and looked within. I’d always wanted to experiment with the colour technique theory, and this project seemed apt, being my most ambitious, both personally and professionally. A series of pictures capturing my journey through my pregnancy, depicting the myriad moods and colours. Each day anew, each day different, while the world seems to stand still. The changes that help me understand these little moments, the changes that help me care for a miracle. I used self-portraiture. The camera was on a tripod, and a self-timer was used. The compositions were taken and marked previously. One strobe light and one continuous light was used to create the effect. Colour gels, the colour theory was used on the light to execute the colour effect. In some images, a projector was used in place of continuous light to project patterns.
