Most of my pieces are photograms, images that try to tap into a quirky region where the meeting of unlikely entities sometimes yields a type of logic. I find that there is a certain inherent poetic appeal to camera-less image-making in that it is a medium that works with playfulness, flight, dreams, humour, the macabre. All of these aspects are what draws me to this type of expression and the unpredictability of experimentation, which is both frustrating and magical. The Deep in a Dream series is comprised of black and white silver gelatin photograms toned with turmeric. I am attempting in these photograms to create a mirror image of an interior dream world. I enjoy working with recurring images. For example, in much of my work, the human figure is tiny and vulnerable in the background of an unsettling landscape. I also utilize images of animals, especially horses, creatures that are, for me, forever mysterious.
