Drawing on my knowledge of computer and commercial design techniques, processes and working methods, I have developed my own unique and recognisable style, looking at the world at 90 degrees to reality. The composition and design elements are initially drawn in a notebook then the final image is created photographically. Strong, bold and rich with artistic creativity, my vividly surreal photography bridges the gap between traditional photography, Massurreal imagery and New Media techniques. Contrary to the expectations of critiques I do not use Photoshop or Lightroom and I now shoot exclusively in monochrome
About
Alan King was born in Greenwich, South East London, in February 1952. At the age of seven or eight, he was already experimenting with photography first using his Father's Kodak box camera and later with his own trusty Kodak Brownie 127, through Zenit E and Zenit TTL 35mm SLR cameras upgrading his choice of camera regularly over the years he currently uses a Nikon D3200. In 1963 he joined ELTHAM GREEN SCHOOL where he majored in Art and English. He was lucky enough to have Art masters who, although educating the disciplines of Art, allowed students to develop their own styles. It was here that he was introduced to the groundbreaking surreal photography of Herbert Bayer, Man Ray and Angus McBean and Phillipe Halsman His current style of photographic artwork only really developed in 1999 when he decided to experiment with combining traditional photography with his illusionary Art style with the aid of computer software. His contemporary surreal style was soon recognised and he was invited to join the Massurrealists group in 2004.
