Located at 13, rue de l’Abbaye in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, delpire & co is at once a publishing house, bookstore, gallery, and a lively place for encounters and events. We initiate demanding photographic projects, singular writings, encounters of text and image, curatorial research, the discovery of new talents as well as forgotten works, political points of view and sensitive expressions.
Delpire Editeur was founded in 1953 and managed by Robert Delpire for over sixty years. Known for his eye, he made a considerable contribution to the history of photography and contributed to the recognition of artists who have become essential such as Robert Frank, William Klein, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Josef Koudelka and Sarah Moon.
Over the years, many collections have emerged – first NEUF, then L’Encyclopédie Universelle, Maestro, Photo Poche and Des Images et des Mots – eclectic but always with the same ambition: “to astonish the eye.”
In parallel to this amorous exploration of photography, the catalog includes books of illustration, with the publication of books for children – among which we find famous albums such as Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and Crocodile Tears by André François.
In 2020, Delpire Éditeur has become delpire & co, under the direction of Julien Frydman, former director of Magnum Photos and Paris Photo. Thus opens a new chapter, in continuity with the spirit and approach of Robert Delpire’s “showman of images.”
