In a feat never before achieved with a photographic exhibition, Sent Into Space will launch a framed screen exhibiting the images over 111,000 feet into the stratosphere with a 360° camera attached — so photographers can see their images displayed against the extraordinary backdrop of space.
The images will then be translated into binary code and beamed into space. The radio waves will travel unimpeded through the solar system and ultimately through the universe at the speed of light; these messages could continue on an infinite journey for the rest of time — or until another civilisation receives and decodes them.
What better way for humanity to be reminded of all that we have in common than this beautifully simple gesture, to say: "we earthlings".

About Portrait of Humanity™
Portrait of Humanity™ is a global initiative by 1854 Media, publisher of British Journal of Photography.
Portrait of Humanity™ is a movement that seeks to prove that there is more that unites us than sets us apart. Inspired by individuality, community and unity, it is a unique opportunity for photographers to celebrate the many faces of humanity through the power of photography.
Portrait of Humanity™ wants to get an insight into the lives of people from across the globe; to capture laughter, courage, and sorrow, moments of reflection, journeys to work, first hellos, last goodbyes, and everything that happens in between.
Applications are open to everyone, and to all interpretations of portraiture; self-portraits, group pictures, street photography. Share your depiction of humanity.
