Artist-photographer Popel Coumou plays in her work with the most important elements of photography: light, paper and the perception of reality. By focussing her collages of paper she adds a third dimension to the paper relief. In this way the flat surface comes to life. Popel has a penchant for empty spaces, graphic lines and compositions bordering on abstraction. Especially for Fotomuseum Den Haag Popel made new work. For the first time she blows up her collages to large format. She reacts to the architectural lines of the museum and plays with the light in the space, turning her exhibition into an installation itself. In this way Popel Coumou invites the visitor to step into her illusionary world. In this video by Gerrit Schreurs Popel talks about her work and we give you a preview of her exhibition Paper and light.
