Every two years FotoFest asks artists that have participated in our Biennials, exhibitions, and other FotoFest programs and events to make a donation of their artwork to the FotoFest Fine Print Auction. This enables collectors to acquire some examples of the most outstanding work that FotoFest has supported. The work is largely contemporary, but also occasionally includes important examples of vintage classical work. All of the prints are selected and accepted by invitation from the FotoFest director and co-founders. The prints are museum quality, and important examples of each artist’s work.
This collaboration between the artist donors and FotoFest provides a unique collection of art drawn from around the world. The fourteenth FotoFest Biennial Fine Print Auction features an exceptional selection of artwork donated by contemporary artists from sixteen countries across the world. Some of these artists are also included in the African Cosmologies biennial central exhibition.
FotoFest is grateful for the support of the more than sixty donating artists and collectors. Works by the artists contributing to the FotoFest Auction came from Western and Central Europe, South Asia, East Asia, Russia, Canada, Latin America, and the United States.
There is no other benefit photography auction that brings together this range of high quality contemporary work. The Fine Print Auction is FotoFest’s principal and largest fundraiser, occurring only once every two years. Its intent is also making truly fine national and international contemporary photographic art by leading artists available to people interested in fine art. All of the artists have significant professional careers and accomplishments. They have had important exhibitions and commissions with FotoFest. It is our hope that the Auction will honor these artists and their work by stimulating new excitement about fine art collecting and building public appreciation for the value of photography and photo-based contemporary art.
Auction revenues from print sales and table sponsorships go directly to support FotoFest art, exhibition, and professional development programs in Houston and abroad, as well as the Literacy Through Photography year-round learning program, serving thousands of Houston-area students every school year. We thank you for your interest in collecting photography and photo-based work, and sincerely appreciate your support of FotoFest.
