Ludwig Spaude: For many years, I could not remember: Where was I when I was a child? My physical body was still bound to Berlin, but while dissociating, I escaped. I dreamt of a world where I could create myself - a place far away from everyone, lost in the middle of untouched land. The project Unter dem gleichen Himmel started in 2023 and comprises approximately 50 photographs. I travelled through Latin America, Asia, and Europe. To capture these images, I spent many nights in national parks, sometimes with a guide for proper training and sometimes on my own. I visited numerous countries to find the places I had longed for as a child. Using my digital medium format camera, I meticulously portrayed my surroundings. I chose to work with a single focal length to create painting-like landscapes, typically used for portraits. The photos are in black and white to emphasise details, light, and shadows, avoiding the distraction of colour.
The photos are open to interpretation, as everyone has their own connection to nature. I needed to explore this topic and reconnect with what had been dormant within me for so long. I drew inspiration from the drawings I did as a child, lost memories, and the sounds of nature. My photos are intended to immerse the viewer in my inner world, full of lush yet dark and misty cloud forests.
