The festival, now in its seventh edition, will see international guests such as Italian photojournalist Francesco Cito, Belgian photographer Alain Schroeder -winner of the World Press Photo 2020, Nature-, Gulnara Samoilova, acclaimed New York photographer and creator of the traveling exhibition Women Street Photographers, English street photographer Nick Turpin, founder of the famous international collective iN-PUBLiC, Czech conceptual photographer Miloš Nejezchleb, Polish street photographer Ania Klosek and many more.

Numerous exhibitions are scheduled, starting from the exhibitions connected to URBAN 2020 contest: the collective of the Winners (Sala Xenia, main venue of the Festival). The collaboration with the Museums and Libraries Service of the Municipality of Trieste continues, offering a series of exhibitions aimed at enhancing the interaction between contemporary photography and museum sites: the exhibition-prize at the Civic Museum Sartorio (inauguration Friday 23 October) for 4 projects selected by Laura Carlini Fanfogna, director of the Museums and Libraries Service of the Municipality of Trieste, and Claudia Colecchia, Head of the Photo Library and Library of the Civic Museums of History and Art of the Municipality of Trieste and set up in collaboration with the Conservator of the Lorenza Resciniti museum.

The Civic Museum of Oriental Art will host an unmissable personal exhibition by Alain Schroeder focused on the two Koreas. The shots proposed by the dotART association will be selected by Michela Messina, Museum curator and Claudia Colecchia, Head of the Photo Library and Library of the Civic Museums of History and Art of the Municipality of Trieste.

Then there is the great exhibition-tribute to Alex Webb Chromantic, made by Exhibit Around: 150 photos of authors from all over the world, among the over 500 that make up the photographic volume of the same name (inauguration Saturday 23 October, with the intervention of the Italian critic Sandro Parmiggiani, who edited the texts of the volume).

Accademia Scaglia will host for the first time in Italy the large itinerant collective Women Street Photographer, born from the highly successful Instagram profile created by Gulnara Samoilova (over 87 thousand followers, the largest community of street photographers in the world) resulting in a traveling exhibition that has already touched New York, Washington, Brussels, New Delhi and Sofia. Also scheduled are Carlo Barberio‘s Thank God For My Life (winner of the TPD Portfolio in 2019), and Lorenzo Zoppolato‘s Cronache immaginarie di un domatore di cavalli. To crown the program, the exhibitions of Trieste Photo Fringe, the “off festival” of Trieste Photo Days which takes place in a selected circuit of clubs in the city center.

Scheduled, as always, also the publishing initiatives born within the festival and involving photographers from the five continents. The photographic volumes On the traces of the patriarchal state of Aquileia (created in collaboration with the Municipality of Aquileia and focused on the history of the Region), Generations (focused on the elderly), Staying Home Together (a project on global lockdown promoted in collaboration with F-Stop Magazine), Trieste, between past, present and future, the aforementioned Chromantic, Cities 7 and Urbanscape created by Italian Street Photography, and URBAN Unveils the City and its Secrets vol. 06, which contains the best of the URBAN 2020 competition.

Workshops and portfolio reviews are also on the calendar. Gulnara Samoilova will hold a Street Photography workshop for the lucky few, while Graziano Perotti will guide a small group of photographers in the production of an interesting project that will lead to the Rozzol Melara Project exhibition next year. Nick Turpin will give Private Consultation to some photographers on their projects. Given the period, and to offer more photographers the opportunity to participate, this year Portfolio readings will be carried out online by a group of prestigious professionals, thanks to the partnership with the Italy Photo Award. Cecilia Pratizzoli, coordinator of Italy Photo Award, will be at the festival and will subsequently announce the two winners of the portfolio reviews.

To anticipate the festival, the Photo Days Tour, a frame of exhibition events that take place outside the city, united by a double common denominator: on the one hand the best street photography of the URBAN 2020 Photo Awards competition, on the other, the photographic tribute to the Patriarchate of Aquileia. From mid-September there will be exhibitions in Aquileia (Palazzo Meizlik, Saturday 17/10), Cormòns (Museo del Territorio, Saturday 17/10), Sacile (Immaginario Gallery, late September) and Milan (Solferino Lab Showroom, from 28 / 09).
