The Festival of Ethical Photography of Lodi, Italy, is very pleased to announce the shortlist of the XII annual edition of the World Report Award | Documenting Humanity, an international photography contest.

Once again, the Award has obtained a great success and the international jury especially constituted for this occasion — composed by Chloe Coleman (Washington Post), Gloria Crespo MacLennan (El Pais), Aldo Mendichi and Alberto Prina (co-ordinators of the Festival of Ethical Photography) — had the chance to examine and evaluate over 800 submissions (11.899 images in total) realized by 741 photographers coming from 60 different nations

The World.Report Award aims at a new form of social commitment through photography and it gives attention to works focusing on people and their social or cultural stories; public or private, minor or crucial, major human tragedies or smaller daily life stories, changes and immutability.

Every year the contest creates a fresco that tells the stories of our Planet, its great changes and its intimate and personal relationships connecting human beings. After a long and difficult process of selection, the jury has selected the 70 shortlisted photographers.

The winners of the contest will be announced on August 30th, 2022 and their work exhibited on the occasion of the annual edition of the Festival that is taking place from September 24th to October 23th, 2022.

In the meantime, the Festival staff is working on creating a rich program of exhibitions by international and award-winning photojournalists, as well as meetings, workshops, portfolio reviews, video-projections, guided tours, book presentation, educational projects for students and numerous other events that investigate the relationship between ethics, communication and photography.

This event, which aims to promote photography as a tool of knowledge and in depth analysis through different modes and methods, has seen a growing appreciation year after year. At the center of its investigation there are many important themes told through compelling images showed in several exhibit areas all over the town: there are ancient buildings, galleries and outdoor locations. This is aimed to empower the mission of this event allowing photography to reach a wider public audience and raise awareness on very important issues and stories that need to be told.

The new edition of the Festival aims at analyzing the contemporary society through the power of photography and thanks to the careful analysis of international photojournalists that helps us to better understand the complexity of our time.

Since its first year, the Festival of Ethical Photography has always given particular attention to the use of photography by those organisations that deal with social issues. For this reason there is a special section dedicated to the nonprofit world that is reserved for the presentation of photographic works commissioned to photographers by nonprofit organisations.

The number of registered visitors grew from about 3,000 in 2010 when the Festival was created to more than 18,000 in 2019. Despite the pandemic has severily hit the cultural and entertainment sector, the nonprofit behind the organization of the Festival has kept working to  hold the event both in 2020 and 2021, one of the few in the italian panorama of Festivals.

FUJIFILM Italia has been supporting both the event as an official partner and the World Report Award contest as an award partner, with the objective of promoting the culture of photography as a necessary human expression.
