Helge Skodvin is a photographer based in Bergen. He is an educated carpenter, but since he put down the hammer he has been working as a photographer for magazines, newspapers, companies and publishers. He has published three photo books (and several more on the way). His book «240 Landscape» was named the best photo book by Martin Parr in 2015. Skodvin works in the genre of documentary photography, with a strong visual voice and personal approach.
Søndergaards work is concerned with ideas of expressing and defining masculinity and identity. He produces ominously dark and eloquently beautiful portraits of fragile yet powerful subjects. His work is informed by a personal and academic interest in religious studies, after studying religious science (University of Copenhagen), which is the basis for his debut series RITE (2018).

Last years theme at Nordic Light was Nordic Now! and we will continue to focus on young Nordic photography. But we will also invite established photographers that represent both the Nordic and international photography scene, and we already have exciting news that we will share in the near future. The artist driven publication Uncertain States Scandinavia is now part of the program committee and will present the young Scandinavian program in a special issue of their magazine, and through exhibitions and talks throughout the festival!
